Ice will typically form up to the sides of the Thermo-Pond™. It will not harm or "crush" the unit. There is water under it which allows toxic gases to vent through the hole.

BIOBALLS
Bio balls are small, pegged plastic balls mainly used as the biological media in wet/dry filters. These little plastic bio balls have TONS of surface area for the growth of bacteria for filtration. There are approx. 80 bio balls per gallon. They are used as the biological media in salt water and fresh water aquariums as well as ponds. They are really simple to use: place into a mesh bag and drop into the pond filter. Do not clean the bioballs once they are cycled, or you will risk killing off all the beneficial bacteria that you need to filter your water. Another use for bioballs: fill your tank's overflow box. They will keep your snails and other animals from going down the overflow as well as quiet the overflow greatly.

Application Directions
Apply CrystalClear Clarity Max over the surface area or around the perimeter of the pond in dry form. Be careful not to let product dust plant coverage . Immediately after application the pond may become cloudy. This is a normal process and should clear within 24-48 hours. Allow 3 to 4 weeks for the pond to balance.
CrystalClear Clarity Max will break down and reduce pond debris, thus making it easier to remove by pond filtration systems. Field experience shows that this product works best in ponds from 500 - 8,000 gallons, however very good results have been recorded on much larger projects (16,000 - 500,000 gallon ponds).

CRYSTAL CLEAR PH BUFFER
Crystal Clear pH Buffer will help to prevent wide pH swings which are very common in ornamental ponds from dawn to dusk due to respiration and photosynthesis. All ponds are affected by pH. alkalinity or acidity will determine whether the pH is high or low, respectively. In order to maintain pH at a constant, buffering of the system is required. This means controlling the alkalinity of the water. Alkalinity is the capacity of a natural water system to resist change in pH and is measured in terms of bicarbonate and carbonate ions available in the system. Alkalinity is also very important in the ntirification process to convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate. Alkalinity and oxygen are the two rate limiting factors in the nitrification process. A properly buffered system resists change in pH due to acid rain and other external factors. It is essential for ornamental ponds to maintain a buffering capacity of 80-240 PPM for pH stabilization. CrystalClear® Buffer will increase pH stability and increase buffering capacities.

CRYSTAL CLEAR PH SALTS DOWN
CrystalClear® pH Salts Down will safely and efficiently lower the pH of an ornamental pond within safe ranges (6.5-9.0). If your water is hard or alkaline, a higher dose of CrystalClear® pH Salts Down may be required. Before using CrystalClear® pH Salts Down, make sure the alkalinity (carbonate concentration or buffering capacity) of your water is about 80 ppm. We suggest buffering the alkalinity with CrystalClear® Buffer. It is also a good idea to test the water's pH first with CrystalClear® Test Strips . If the pH is about 8.5-9.0 apply CrystalClear® pH Salts Down. Most ornamental fish can adjust to a pH within 1 or 2 points from neutral (7.0), but it is very important to make pH changes gradually if fish are present. If possible, adjust pH before adding fish.

CRYSTAL CLEAR PH SALTS UP
CrystalClear® pH Salts Up will raise the pH of pond water to within safe levels. It is recommended to be used only when the pH of a pond is lower than 6.0. It is important to note that pH is typically lowest at dawn and higher at dusk. Fish respiration lowers the pH and photosynthesis raises the pH so it is very important to test your pond pH at the same time each day. Adjust pH at 0.2 points per day. A drastic change in pH may cause stress or even death in ornamental fish.
Before using CrystalClear® pH Salts Up, test the pH of the water first with CrystalClear® Test Strips . This should give a good indication of your pH level before you apply CrystalClear® pH Salts Up. As most people are aware, high pH is an indication of high concentrations of alkalinity in water and low pH is an indication of high acid concentrations in water. In order to raise pH an application of an alkaline substance such as, CrystalClear® pH Salts Up which is sodium carbonate monohydrate is needed. Once CrystalClear® pH Salts Up (sodium carbonate monohydrate) is added to the water it will increase the amount of hydroxide ions in the water. This product works well for the pond enthusiast because it is simple to use, it won’t harm fish or plants and it works slowly and uses a simple process so as to cut down on user over-application. pH HIGHER
Few pond hobbyists worry enough about low pH, but as the pond ages, pH naturally falls to dangerous levels. This is caused by acid produced by the breakdown of organic material. As pH falls, nitrifying bacteria living in the bio-filter stop multiplying and eventually die off. The result is severe water quality problems, fish stress, cloudy water, odor and fish loss.
